Autumn 2018 · Bondi

Featured in C21, Century 21 real estate’s property and lifestyle magazine, in the Autumn 2018 issue we shared our top ten to-dos for the autumn garden. A few we stand by: rake fallen leaves into the compost or use them as mulch, since well rotted leaf mould feeds the soil. Get spring bulbs into the ground now, daffodils, dutch iris, hyacinth and tulips among them, chilling hyacinth and tulip bulbs in the fridge for about eight weeks first in warmer areas. Trim hedges back before winter to keep them compact, but leave a Wisteria’s flowering spur alone, since it has already set its spring buds. And it is prime time to feed citrus trees with a specially formulated feed watered in around the dripline, keeping an eye out for bronze orange bug.
The garden pictured throughout the feature is our Bondi project, Relaxation on Multiple Levels. We used layered terraces to create zones for lounging, entertaining and quiet reflection around a sleek rear pool, with a custom timber pergola for shade. The planting leans into its coastal setting, sculptural Agave, soft Liriope ground cover and swaying Miscanthus grasses, set off by a charcoal painted timber fence. It is proof that the groundwork you put into a garden in autumn is what keeps it looking this considered months on. To read the full issue of C21 Autumn 2018, click here.
