Front Garden Perfection
A considered Kensington front-garden redesign that balances the client’s needs for privacy and practical parking with the council heritage requirements of the streetscape.
Heritage character, thoughtfully renewed
For this Kensington heritage property, the brief was to create a more welcoming and practical front garden while respecting the character of the home and its streetscape.
Council heritage requirements were a significant part of the project from the outset. Before construction could begin, development approval was needed and the new frontage had to sit comfortably alongside the surrounding heritage homes. Growing Rooms helped the clients navigate these requirements, developing a design that balanced council expectations with their vision for greater privacy, functionality and street appeal.
Once the design was approved, we installed a new front fence, motorised gates, a carport and cedar gates. These additions created secure, shaded parking and a more private entry, while remaining in keeping with the home’s traditional character.
Granite crazy paving along the pathway and pebbles across the driveway echo the warm brick tones of the house, while the front fence carries through the same considered pattern. Traditional hedging and flowering plantings soften the structure and complement the classic architecture.
Subtle garden lighting completes the space, giving the front garden a refined presence after dark. The result is a front garden that meets the heritage requirements of the site while feeling personal, practical and distinctly at home in Kensington.
