Bondi Garden Design: Poolside Living
A relaxed outdoor retreat built around an existing pool
We transformed the outdoor areas surrounding the existing pool into a connected, low-maintenance retreat for swimming, relaxing and entertaining. A new cabana with integrated spa and seating, an operable pergola, stone-look porcelain paving, composite decking, tropical planting and artificial turf bring every part of the garden together.
This Bondi garden design had a strong starting point in the existing pool, but the surrounding areas felt disconnected. We redesigned the pool zone as a cohesive outdoor retreat, introducing comfortable spaces for spa time, lounging and entertaining.
At the rear, we designed and built a cabana that brings together an integrated spa, broad steps and relaxed seating. The cabana and spa zone feature Millboard Enhanced Grain composite decking in Smoked Oak, finished with matching fascia boards. Its softly weathered timber look complements the surrounding garden, while the wood-free, moisture-resistant construction avoids the regular sanding, staining and oiling required by natural timber.
Attached to the house, an operable louvred pergola extends everyday living outdoors, with adjustable shade, rain protection and integrated lighting. The pool coping and alfresco area beneath the pergola are finished with Eco Outdoor Technifirma Rivet textured porcelain pavers. Their light beige, beach-sand tone and subtle dark grey flecks echo natural stone, while the durable porcelain surface is well suited to wet and high-traffic areas.
Frameless glass fencing completes the pool zone, while a custom copper outdoor shower offers a convenient place to rinse off after a few laps.
Layered tropical planting creates privacy and softens the architecture on every side, supported by new irrigation and drainage. Artificial turf provides a durable, low-maintenance green surface. We also installed garden and path lighting to illuminate the planting and make the outdoor spaces welcoming after dark. With regular Growing Rooms maintenance, this Bondi garden continues to thrive as a resort-like retreat designed for daily use.
